First Pubcrawl in Otley

This was the start of the biggest Pubcrawl that I had ever attempted during my short lifetime. I could see a lot of Panadole being used before this adventurer was over. But everything starts somewhere and our first Pub was THE ROSE'N'CROWN. It had that nice little atmosphere that you can only get in a fridge!. I found out that the favorite beer around here was TETLEYS BITTER. Not a bad drop if I may say so myself. If you ask for a smooth they use a hand pull and pump the beer out of the keg, no gas, and it tastes great i've gotten very friendly with this drop. This pub was one of me fav's during me four months in Otley. We had get together's with Tania's mates and family over many of pints so you could say it was like a home away from home for this little Aussie. All I can say is that it is a Great Pub and is always full of young fellas trying to pull a sheilah for a naughty. But today it was a bit quiet in the pub and the pint of tetleys went down with touching the sides. So now with my thirst taken care of (care of a pint of the smooth stuff) we traveled to THE JUNCTION. Well the No2 Pub had a beaut reputation as the winner of many awards for it's beer. And had also won the CAMRA AWARD for Best Pub!. So you can just imagine how much fun a beer lover like your truly would have in a pub like this. Yes the beers bloody nice and warm and tastes great. They have live bands playing weekly and have a wide range of beers on tap. Today being me first pub crawl in Otley I thought I might go back to my roots and drink down an aussie beer. So something different I drank a XXXX, strewth no wonder I don't drink this stuff back home. But it was strange drinking an icy cold beer after so many warm beers over here. And I can see why they drink the warm stuff as it doesn't freeze ya friggin' tonsils. But this is a beaut pub it's got all the old stuff you need in an english pub. Like stone floors and that look like it hasn't been touched much over the years, it's a real good pub mate.
So now we had a nice little walk to No3 THE THREE HORSESHOES, now this is a beaut watering hole. They have a pool table and some good live bands, over the four months in Otley this was my most drank at pub. Tania's mob Chris, Liam, Neil and there mates sank plenty of pints over that time. And this pub had one thing I loved and that was Guinness on tap. I never drank much of this stuff over home but since I came to Otley I reckon I must of drank at least one every two days. Not bad for a bloke who doesn't drink much., but without doubt this would be my best pub in Otley, fair dinkum. It had everything but a view. A good pool table, a great selection of beers on tap, good bands at night and two of the best looking barmaids on offer. What else does a ridgie-didge drinker need mate. But right now with a Guinness in the tummy we set of to our next pub which was THE BLACK HORSE HOTEL. Now I'm a bit one sided with this pub, as me and the misses had our wedding reception upstairs in the dinning room. And no joking we had what I think was the greatest wedding piss up of all time. The worst thing about the hotel I found was trying to make my way down the stairs at the end of the night with about twenty Guinness pints and hand full of john smiths under me belt. Only to remember that I was staying upstairs for the night, fair dinkum it was like running a marathon getting up those bloody stairs mate. But we had many of good memories of the day and so being one-eyed, I give this pub full marks. It's just off the market square and is the biggest pub and hotel in Otley. It's very well looked after and is quiet nice to look at as I sink this pint of tetley's bitter. But it was time to hit the road and get to our next stop, THE WITAKERS (Pub No5)
which was back to the smallish pubs. Most pubs in England are on the small side compared to aussie pubs, which isn't a bad thing as it helps with the nights atmosphere. You only need about eight to ten people at the bar and you would think your in a packed pub. Fair dinkum and everyone over here loves nothing better then a good yarn, so your not left alone to perv on the barmaid. At this pub I wrap me laughing gear around another black and foamie (Guinness) and just sit back and have a yarn to the fellas. This is a good old fashioned pub and is easy just to sit back and enjoy yourself taking it easy.

By now the golden drop was making' it's effect on yours truly and it was a jolly little stroll around the corner to THE WOOLPACK. At this time of night everything was going on, there was heaps of noisy, drunk people about and the pub was full. It's another beaut pub and one that anyone could fall for. Here I sank a couple of pints of the old Tetleys and was feeling pretty bloody good mate. I remember popping in for a couple of pints most Sunday's after church. Fair dinkum mate I mightn't be a great church goer but through a couple of pints in and i'm there. Fair dinkum no lie I even had a chat over a pint of tetley's with our Vicer after one sunday sermon. This pub is spot on and get's top marks for good atmosphere and friendly staff and of cause top beer. Now it was time for a nightcap and our last pub for the night.... well it's not really a pub it's a nightclub/wine bar, but who cares. It sells beer so that's good enough for your's truly. It's called KURIS WINEBAR (No7).

They have a bar out front where you can have a quiet drink and a night club out the back, the only one in Otley. There were heaps of people in the nightclub and I've got no idea what I was drinking but after a couple that was the end of my night. So with a full stomach of beer we stagged threw the foggie night, down the cobblestone street to her oldies place and a good warm bed.
